So here we go, School Spectacular rehearsals are in full swing. This is my little intro to what goes on in the lead up to Spec. Our first rehearsal as shown in the video was basically getting to know the cast as two ensembles (senior ensemble and company) were joined together to form this group with a cast of 20. Hope you enjoy my first blog and stay tuned, more videos will be posted asap.

Introducing...Ben James
Ready for an insider’s look into all that goes on in the lead up to one of the most eagerly anticipated events on the school calendar? Follow Ben’s unique journey through acting in the 2011 Schools Spec...
Ben James didn’t stumble upon acting. He stumbled first, injured both of his legs, found out he couldn’t play sport and then got a hold of a NIDA play script. And he hasn’t let go since. The eighteen year-old Newtown Performing Arts student has been acting for eight long years and has experienced amazing highlights like travelling to Ireland for the Belfast Festival (2006). It wasn’t just about learning the lines. Playing a skater, he had to master all sorts of stunts and in his latest role ‘Leo’ (in the play ‘Bassett’) he even had to shave his head! That’s what acting is all about: ‘it’s all worth it just to see the reaction of the audience’, he admits.
2011 will be Ben’s third year with School Spectacular; a project that opened up an entire new world of performance and still gives him butterflies: ‘It’s a great atmosphere, especially backstage where everyone is running off cheering’. He hopes to enrol at NIDA (National Institute of Dramatic Art) and someday reach the big screen, though he won’t abandon his love for theatre.
What can we expect from his School Spectacular role? We’ll just have to keep our eyes peeled for a great love story of hope and loss!
